Glamping and sustainability - presentation by ECOCAMPING at the ITB

Glamping and sustainability - presentation by ECOCAMPING at the ITB - glamping.info

Glamping was also discussed this year at the ITB, the trade fair for the international tourism industry. Marco Walter from Ecocamping gave a lecture on the topic of glamping, luxury and sustainability and also highlighted the growth potential of the glamping industry.

The aspects of sustainability in relation to glamping were addressed. A topic that Ecocamping is particularly dedicated to. Energy efficiency, protection of biodiversity, sustainable rental accommodation, gentle mobility, etc. are the keywords that stand for sustainable camping. The trend towards rental camping or glamping in particular opens up opportunities to achieve these goals in nature-based tourism . It is essential that the rental accommodation is designed in a nature-friendly manner and has a structure that enables waste avoidance and energy efficiency.

The Jesolo International Club Camping was chosen as an example campsite for the lecture. The motivation of the guests there who chose glamping accommodation was highlighted in the lecture. The trend towards more quality and comfort on vacation and the desire for extravagant accommodation are emotional factors that counteract the glamping trend. The end of camping life often begins with the switch to glamping. Those camping dropouts who have to do without their camping car due to age-related obstacles are a not insignificant group among glamping fans. The desire for that special camping feeling can be met through glamping. On the other hand, the high level of comfort and luxury in glamping also motivates those groups of people for whom a camping holiday would never be an option for various reasons. After all, 90% of Europeans are non-campers and would therefore remain inaccessible to this type of tourism.

Another point shows that environmental sustainability is playing an increasingly important role when choosing a vacation. More than three quarters of guests take environmental aspects into account when making their booking decision . The campsite in Jesolo has responded to this fact with over EUR 2,000,000 in environmental investments, becoming the first CO2 neutral campsite in the world.

The content of the lecture shows that the possibilities of glamping, especially in combination with sustainable tourism, are far-reaching.

We are particularly pleased that our young platform glamping.info was mentioned several times in the lecture. Thank you for that!
